India to be the first market for Honda Elevate-based BEV

Honda India is gearing up for an electric revolution, and leading the charge will be a locally manufactured EV SUV based on the Elevate platform. Slated for launch between 2026 and 2027, this new electric vehicle will debut under a unique brand name. Marking a significant milestone, India will be the first market to welcome this EV before its global rollout, signaling Honda’s focus on high levels of localization.

Stepping Into a Competitive Segment

The Elevate-based EV will enter the burgeoning mid-range electric SUV segment, competing directly with upcoming models like the Maruti e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta EV, Kia Carens EV, next-gen MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and the production version of Toyota’s Urban SUV. Expected to be priced between ₹20 lakh and ₹26 lakh, this EV will sit above the regular Elevate. Interestingly, Honda has decided to forgo hybrid technology (HEV) for the Elevate in favor of focusing solely on this battery-electric vehicle (BEV).

A Strategic Approach

Honda is taking a cautious yet calculated approach to its EV strategy. Much like Skoda, the brand is carefully assessing market conditions, awaiting clarity on CAFE 3 norms and the Indian government’s stance on taxation for BEVs and hybrid vehicles. This thoughtful approach aims to position Honda as a strong competitor in the segment rather than an early adopter with untested risks.

What to Expect from the Elevate-Based EV

While Honda has kept most details under wraps, some predictions can be made. The EV is expected to feature a robust 60+kWh battery pack, delivering an impressive range of 500-600 kilometers. It will likely share features with a facelifted version of the Elevate, including:

  • Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Multi-zone climate control with rear AC vents
  • Digital displays and connected car technology
  • Powered front seats
  • A panoramic sunroof

The Road Ahead

Honda’s Elevate-based EV represents a pivotal step in the brand’s electric journey in India. With a focus on localization, competitive pricing, and advanced technology, this upcoming EV SUV aims to carve out a significant share in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market while setting the stage for Honda’s future in sustainable mobility.
