Maruti 800 should return as an electric car

Back in the 1980s, the Maruti 800 had changed the Indian car market , being the first car which was affordable to the masses.  With the company sticking to cleaner fuels in its BS6 era, a comeback of the 800 is expected in the form of the 800 EV. This concept has been given by RajshekharDass an automotive engineer and designer. He believes that just as the 800 made the car dream come true for the masses, we needed another revolutionary Maruti to make EVs affordable to Indians.

The car is expected to come with a quite impressive powertrain that can do a range of 130Km. The engineer shared a number of renders that showcase different specifications. Its speciality is the retention of the 800’s simplicity. However, the car will have LEDs and DRLs on a blacked out strip in the front, giving it a touch of modernity. The rear of the car is quite attractive too, with stylishly accommodated tail lamps.

The rendering may appear simple from the outside, but it is packed with tech on the inside. That said, the technology has been made user friendly. Its essence is a continuous digital panel floating around the cabin. The company could add functions like window opening and closure, tiny adjustment and door locking and unlocking. Other systems that could be included in the car could include IoT (Internet of Things)  fingerprint scanner and face recognition. The steering wheel is squarish in shape. This futuristic car will also see some ambient lighting on the inside.

Presently, the launch of MarutiWagonR EV is on the cards. It has been seen testing on public roads several times. For an EV revolution to take place in the country, we don’t just need new affordable cars in the segment. Infrastructure is the key to EV transition, and electric charging points a more a  necessity before any company rolls out a number of EVs for customers.
