New Maruti Swift leaked ahead of India launch next week

Ahead of its much-awaited debut in India on May 9th, the latest iteration of the Maruti Swift has been revealed in its entirety. Representing the fourth generation of the model, the Indian version closely resembles its counterparts in Japan and Europe, a testament to its global success.

Design Enhancements

The new Swift boasts several exterior enhancements, including a revamped grille, updated wheels, and refreshed headlamps and tail lamps. While the overall silhouette remains largely unchanged, minor tweaks make it slightly longer than its predecessor. Notably, the rear-door handles have been relocated to the doors from the C-pillar of the third-generation model.

Inside the cabin, familiar elements are retained, albeit with notable updates such as a new touchscreen, revamped climate control interface, and a larger color multi-information display (MID) in the instrument cluster. Images reveal a black-over-silver color scheme accentuated by an orange backlight.

Variants and Trim Levels

The upcoming Swift will be available in various trims, including LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, and ZXi+, catering to both automatic and manual transmission preferences.

Powertrain Options

Sources suggest that the new Swift will feature a globally available 1.2-liter three-cylinder hybrid petrol engine, delivering 80bhp/111.7Nm of power. This engine will be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). It is anticipated to replace the existing 1.2-liter K12C engine.

Competitive Landscape

In terms of competition, the new Swift will face off against formidable rivals such as the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, Renault Triber, and Citroen C3. Notably, its primary contender is the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which received updates in 2023.
