New Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB production begins ahead of launch
Mercedes-Benz India has begun production of the all-new E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) model ahead of its official launch scheduled for 9 October. The luxury sedan is being locally manufactured at the brand’s state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune. India holds the distinction of being the only market worldwide to produce the right-hand drive (RHD) version of the LWB E-Class. Furthermore, bookings for the new E-Class are now open to customers.
Under the hood, the new E-Class will be powered by two engine options: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, both paired with a standard automatic gearbox. The petrol engine delivers 194bhp and 320Nm of torque, while the diesel variant produces 197bhp and 400Nm of peak torque, offering a powerful yet refined driving experience.
Commenting on the milestone, Vyankatesh Kulkarni, Executive Director and Head of Operations, Mercedes-Benz India, stated, “The E-Class has been a cornerstone of Mercedes-Benz’s journey in India since its introduction in 1995, and it remains a key product in our local production lineup. Starting local production of the new Long Wheelbase E-Class is a significant achievement, reinforcing Mercedes-Benz India’s top-tier manufacturing capabilities, adaptability, and use of digitalization. With this new LWB E-Class, we have expanded our localization efforts by sourcing numerous components from India, further supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative. We take great pride in our skilled and dedicated team, whose expertise enables us to produce world-class ICE and electric vehicles to meet market demands.”
