Czech carmaker Skoda has teased the next-generation Kodiaq SUV. The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq will make its debut later this year in the autumn.

The teaser image for the next-generation Skoda Kodiaq shows off the upcoming flagship SUV’s bare shell. Pilot production of the next-gen Kodiq has already started at Skoda’s production plant in Kvasiny in the Czech Republic with full production set to start in 2024.

Skoda is currently in the process of converting its production line at Kvasiny for the next-gen Kodiaq SUV which will be offered in plug-in hybrid guise when it arrives later this year.

The firm is investing 12 million Euros (Rs 106.12 crore) into the plant involving the integration of existing technologies such as manipulators, chassis assembly and conveyors, and the modification of robots for window-glue application.

With the upgrades complete, Skoda expects to roll out up to 410 units of the Gen 2 Kodiaq off the Kvasiny production facility every day, which will help it meet the ever-growing demand for the firm’s SUVs. The next-gen Kodiaq is expected to make its way into India as a fully-built import sometime in 2024.

The teaser image of the bodyshell of the second generation Kodiaq is a hint to what is expected from the new SUV. The new Kodiaq is expected to be based on the VW Group’s MQB Evo platform. The current Kodiaq is based on the MQB A2 platform.

The MQB Evo platform also underpins the upcoming third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan with which the new SUV will share its new plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Other powertrain options for the second-generation Kodiaq include mild hybrid petrol powerplants as well as diesels, though the latter is not expected to be seen here in India.
